Air Quality Alert
Olé, Olé! Olé, Olé! |
|
It's going to be hot, hot, hot.
Not Death Valley hot, just hot.
There's not much you can do about the heat, but there are several things you can do to prevent air quality from becoming ballistically bad including:
•Refuel your car at night, avoid spilling gas and replace gas tank cap tightly •Avoid revving your engine •Avoid long drive-through lines; instead park your car and go in •Postpone mowing and trimming or use electric garden equipment •Don't grill with charcoal •Turn off lights and electronics when not in use •Postpone unnecessary trips and combine others •Carpool or use public transportation when possible Our region's air quality has improved dramatically over the past two decades despite millions of new people, jobs and automobiles.
However, when Mother Nature "flashes hot" occasionally as predicted in the days ahead, chemicals generated by vehicle and other emissions (that on most days are more benign) combine to produce really nasty ozone and other pollutants that are not kind to our lungs. |
