It happened.
On February 13th every member of Northern Virginia's General Assembly House Delegation (Rs and Ds) voted for the same transportation bill - HB 864.
With Senate passage* and the Governor's signature, HB 864 would re-align the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) to reflect the boundaries of Virginia's current 11 congressional districts. (The existing configuration reflects Virginia's 1930 congressional district borders. Populations have shifted...more than just a little.)
This re-alignment would give Northern Virginia three CTB members (as opposed to one plus an at-large) and make Hampton Roads' and Richmond's representation more proportional.
Now that the House Delegation has united behind new, more realistic CTB boundaries, let's hope they can also find the resolve to come together to produce new, more realistic funding to build badly needed projects in Northern Virginia and other CTB districts.

Well Done House Members!
Congratulations!!
Don't Stop There!!! |

*Unfortunately the Senate Transportation Committee subsequently voted 15-0 to carry over the bill to 2013. All three Northern Virginia Senators - Colgan, Favola and Marsden - voted to postpone consideration to 2013.
