Potomac River Crossing Fantasy vs. Fact 12.19.11

Potomac River Crossings

Fantasy vs. Fact

The fantasy:

"A comprehensive analysis of dozens of (bridge crossing) routes in 2001...concluded the upstream (Potomac River) bridges...couldn't be built without massive disturbances to communities..."

Coalition for Smarter Growth
Washington Business Journal, December 16, 2011

The facts:

The 2001 study was terminated before any comprehensive analysis was conducted. It reached no conclusion.

However, comprehensive studies by the Maryland Department of Transportation and Virginia Department of Transportation including a Tier One Draft Environmental Impact Statement and computer modeling exercises have been completed and concluded that additional river crossings would provide major mobility, prosperity and safety benefits.

In short --

Everyone is Entitled to Their Own Fantasies, but
Not Their Own Facts
