To Be Heard By House Transportation Committee
Last night House Transportation Subcommittee #4 endorsed HB 779 by a 3-2 vote and sent it to the full House Transportation Committee. Delegates Tom Rust (Fairfax/Loudoun), Ed Scott (Culpeper) and Glenn Odor (Newport News) voted in support. Delegates Bob Brink (D-Arlington) David Toscano (Charlottesville) voted no.
HB directs VDOT and VDRPT to evaluate and rank Northern Virginia highway and transit projects based on the ability to reduce traffic congestion and the amount of congestion reduced per dollar invested. HB 779 also seeks to address another fundamental need by directing VDOT to test several scenarios aimed at enhancing regional mobility in the event of a homeland security emergency in the national capital area.
It specifically directs VDOT to evaluate additional river crossings west and south of the Capital Beltway as well as extensions of the I-66 Orange and Dulles Corridor Sliver Metro lines.
